How's Your Love Life?

This weekend I went to a women's conference. It was a great time of fellowship in the Lord and with my sisters in Christ. There were about 10 of us sitting at a table after lunch just chatting and catching up. At one point, there was a brief moment of silence in the conversation, and one woman turned to me and said, "So, how's your love life?" I was so embarrassed as everyone stared at me waiting for my answer. In my mind I'm thinking, "love life...yeah right, what love life?"

I must admit I was a little annoyed at the question. Not at the person, but the question. I have a cousin who always asks me that same question...I'm sure my single sisters know what I am talking about. Have you ever noticed though that no one ever says to a married person, "So, how's your love life?" Isn't that ironic? A word of advice to married people...don't ask singles that question. To say "how's your love life?" to me sounds a little superficial. It reminds me of something out of a soap-opera, almost fantasy-like. If someone wants to share with you about a special person in their life, they will bring it up. Trust me.

After the nano-second of annoyance, I remembered that I do have a love life. For example, I am currently in love with gummy worms, Diet Coke with Lime, Fresca, my new ceramic flat iron for my hair, and a new pair of jeans I got on sale for $19.99...gotta love a sale!! :)

All jokes aside...I do have a love life with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! My friends and I always say that Jesus is our main man!! He's better than any man though, He is Lord! He is accesible 24/7, holds all power in His hand, understands me better than I understand myself, He is perfect, and loves me unconditionally. Sounds good to me!

So, Jesus is not just a part of my love life...He's the Love OF my life!

What about you, how's your love life?

Hey Lin-z - I've had fun scrolling thru a little of your blog :) You know, the questions never do end. When you do find a "boyfriend," the questions are, "Is it serious? When's the wedding?" When you get married the questions are, "When are you going to have a baby? Do you want children?" (which become very heartbreaking when/if you go thru infertility). When you have one baby, they ask, "When are you going to have another baby?" If you have all girls they ask, "Aren't you going to try for a boy?" When you have all boys they ask, "Aren't you going to try for a girl?" Once you have your baby they ask, "Is she sitting up yet? Crawling yet? Walking yet? Potty trained yet? Can she tie her shoes yet? Can she read yet? Can she do cartwheels yet?" It NEVER ends!!!!!

I aswered the "when are you going to have a baby" question with, "in two or three years" for so many years that people thought I didn't want children and were surprised when I got pregnant - but my husband didn't want children for the longest, then I faced a relatively short round of infertility.

I think you did well - sometimes saying our favorite jeans are the love of our life - sometimes saying Jesus - you can even say yourself if you want to really freak someone out! Humor goes a long way . . . and it also, if they get it, kinda tells the other person, "this is none of your business." When they come back and say, "No, really, tell me about your love life." Come back and say, "No, really, it's my new jeans."

It's hard . . . and it never ends. Then the questions become, "Which sports/activities/etc are your children in?" "Are you going to to back to work when . . . the baby turns 1, when your youngest starts school . . . when your youngest graduates."

And now, one of my favorite? is, "Mommy, what do you DO?" They're talking about careers in school and all the kids are telling what their dads and moms DO, and I stay at home, so what do I DO?

It will make you want to scream - which is not a bad thing to do every once in awhile - sometimes the girls and I just have to have screaming sessions (but you will need to plug your ears :) - we go, "One, two, three . . ." and we scream as loud as we can! A good thing for girls :)

Ame--that was hilarious about you and your girls screaming & me needing to plug my ears! ha!!! yeah, people ask too many questions! i recently quit my job to pursue seminary & the questions really rolled in!! how are you going to pay your car note? are you going to be a preacher? if we allow it, peoples questions will persuade us to not go for what we dream of!
